Bijion Dasgupta, born on 30th April 1951, is one of the premier art directors of his time and has to his to his credit over 50 feature films till date. He started his career launching television in Bombay and went on to working on some of landmark films of the era. He has worked on mega blockbusters like saagar, Mr. India, Shehenshah, Tridav, Maine Pyaar Kiya, Dil, Khalnayak, Roop ke Raani Choron ka Raga, Vishwatma, Hum Aapke Hai Khun, Mohra, Prem, Hum Saath Saath Hai, Dhadkan, Escape From Taliban, Umrao Jaan and Dhamaal to name just a few and with the likes of Mr. Shekhar Kapoor as far as directors are concerned. He has also worked on some of the best ad films and been associated with some great ad film directors over the years. Bijio also has to his credit an association with various foreign co-productions, the most recent one being The Mighty Heart directed by Mr. Michael Winterbottom. Bijon did not restrict his flair for colour and design and his aesthetic sense to only the medium of films but instead branched out to include events and has designed the stage for mega events such as Ms.India, Mr. India Mr. Universe, Mrs. World and other award functions, as well as high society thematic weddings such as the wedding in the families of the diamond merchants Bharat and Vijay Shah. He has also over the year designed various nightclubs in India like Fireball in Delhi and Synergie in Bombay. Currently Bijon is working on three bollywood project one being Sanjay Gupta`s movie Alibaug and is the permanent designer of sahara`s internationally renowned dream city, Amby Valley at Lonavla. He recently was asked to set up replica of Taj Mahal to float along the River Thames in the UK, for their India Now featival, which garnered, which garnered him great reviews. 

Feature Films:

I have production designed (art direction) over 120 feature film since 1973. I have worked with every top director and production house in the country. My recent releases are J.P dutta’s Umrao Jaan and deadline. My films that are ready for releases are Dhmaal and Dus kahaniyaan. Shooting at present for Alibaug and Hijack. I am doing 3 more films that are to go on the floor within 2 months. I was the India Art director, along with my team, for Michael Winterbottom`s A Mighty Heart. I recently set up the Taj Mahal so it can festival (that is currently going on) and was invited there as an ambassador for India.

Bombay TV Centre (Doordarshan):

Bijon was heading the designing unit for Bombay DD since its inception, between 1972 and 1980.

He has done lots of designing work in TV for various daily soaps, interviews, music programs, etc.

He has worked for the TV soaps of Ramesh Sippy, Amit khanna (Plus channel), Jalal Agha (Mr. Ya Mrs.).

Beauty Pageants and Award shows

Designed major sets for the earlier shows of the Film fare Awards, Femina Miss India, Look Of The Year, Sansui, Zee TV, Mr. International, ABCL’s Miss world, Mrs. World in Amby Valley in 2005 and many other beauty pageants.

Fashion Shows:

I have done live fashion shows for Lubna Adams, Abu Jani and Sandeep Khosla and Rohit Bal at the US Ambassador`s Residence, Delhi for 3 year among many others.

Designed the recent Bombay Times Party held Bombay and

The Calcutta Times party held in Calcutta.

I have designed various live shows for Zee.

Advertising Films:

I have done over 2000 advertising films with all the big ad film makers.

Music Videos:

I have done various music videos, including videos for Farhan Akhter and Shankar Mahadevan.

Theatre:

I have been designing theatre production for IPTA, and have done Aamir Raza Hussain’s ‘Legend of Ram’ in Delhi Bombay, ‘Kargil’ and ‘Sare Jahaan Se Achcha Hindustan’.

Night clubs:

I have been involved in designing various nightclubs in Delhi as well as Bombay.

Other Development:

I have completely designed the Sahara in Lucknow.

I have been party involved in the Amby Vally development and designing unit.

I have designed a museum for the Hare Rame (ISCON) temple at Delhi, called ‘Glory of India’.

I am presently developing a museum for the same called ‘glory of Maharastra’ in Khargar.

I am presently involved in the designing of the parmath Ashrema at Hrishikesh and their project for the Tsunami victims in the South of India.

I am at present busy with TV Sahara’s reality show ‘The Biggest Loser’.

I am at present also designing a complete studio complex with outdoor and indoor state of the art facilities.

I will be starting my own feature film, Tears in Heaven, to be shot in the U.S. based on my script.

I am also working on a T.V. daily soap, titled DJ, as story and script consultant.
